چکیده
Abstract Colletes hederae, the ivy bee, (Hymenoptera: Colletidae) has undergone large range expansions in Europe recent years, including colonising Britain 2001 with its original distribution limited to Western mainland and Channel Islands. It is thought specialise on Hedera helix L. (Apiales: Ariliaceae), common ivy. However, some research questioned this dependence. This study quantifies foraging ecology of C. hederae determine relationship Sussex. We quantified phenology bloom, activity flower visitation, pollen collection females through analysis. also gathered equivalent data Apis mellifera both as a comparison assess alternative sources. The female was highly correlated phonologically contained within bloom period. Pollen analysis from identified 98.5% samples, significantly more than for A. (90%). Two other plant species were samples when not at peak. Surveys flowers surrounding aggregations found that most insect (26%) . Although can forage species, be an important floral resource. results suggest potential competition , only bee present small numbers H. flowers, although generalist, autumn it mainly forages

Heterosis in the Honey Bee (Apis Mellifera L.).
HERE are three castes in the honey bee colony: the drone, queen, and worker. T The latter two are both females. The drone bee is a male, representing a haploid gamete of the queen bee heading his hive. The honey bee colony is composed of two generations of bees. The queen bee is, in effect, a potent egg-laying machine, while the workers are morphologically and functionally fitted for honey and ...
متن کاملOxidative Enzyme Systems of the Honey Bee, Apis Mellifera L
1. Oxidative dissimilation has been studied in enzymes from the honey bee. Using mitochondria isolated from the thoraces, complete oxidation of most of the TCA cycle members has been shown. 2. The presence of the acetate-activating enzyme, citrate-condensing enzyme, isocitric dehydrogenase, alpha-ketoglutarate dehydrogenase, glucose-6-phosphate, and 6-phosphogluconic dehydrogenase has been demo...
متن کاملThe Basic Helix-Loop-Helix Transcription Factor Family in the Honey Bee, Apis mellifera
The basic helix-loop-helix (bHLH) transcription factors play important roles in a wide range of developmental processes in higher organisms. bHLH family members have been identified in a dozen of organisms including fruit fly, mouse and human. In this study, we identified 51 bHLH sequences in silico in the honey bee, Apis mellifera L. (Hymenoptera: Apidae), genome. Phylogenetic analyses reveale...
متن کاملQuantification of toxins in a Cry1Ac + CpTI cotton cultivar and its potential effects on the honey bee Apis mellifera L.
Transgenic Cry1Ac + CpTI cotton (CCRI41) is increasingly planted throughout China. However, negative effects of this cultivar on the honey bee Apis mellifera L., the most important pollinator for cultivated ecosystem, remained poorly investigated. The objective of our study was to evaluate the potential side effects of transgenic Cry1Ac + CpTI pollen from cotton on young adult honey bees A. mel...
متن کاملActivity-dependent changes to the brain and behavior of the honey bee, Apis mellifera (L.).
To explore the origins and possible behavioral consequences of structural plasticity in an insect brain, we have taken advantage of the following: (1) the highly compartmentalized nature of the primary antenno-sensory centers (antennal lobes) of the brain, (2) the ease with which individual compartments, or glomeruli, within the antennal-lobe neuropil can be identified, and (3) the predictabili...
